Why Should Beginners Start Learning Classical Guitar?

IMG_5011

Learning to play the guitar can be super confusing because you probably don’t know where or how to start.
Buying a guitar is a pretty obvious step, but even that is challenging because there are so many guitars to choose from like acoustic and classical guitar, electric guitars, hollow body, semi-acoustic at wildly varying prices.

Then there are thousands of accessories like strings, stands, amplifiers, straps, slides, capos, cases and more that bewilder a beginner guitarist’s mind even more.

To top it off you also have to decide who you’re going to learn from and how. Will you try to find a teacher and have one-on-one lessons, buy an online course, or maybe just try to go it alone and use freely available lessons on YouTube or some other platform?

Let me outline some of the pros and cons of the three who’s and how’s above:

A structured online classical guitar course for beginners can have you playing your guitar quickly and almost effortlessly, from your bedroom, at a time that suits you. A great online guitar course will also ensure that you are part of a supportive community where sharing, nurturing, and encouragement virtually guarantee success.

What is Classical Guitar and why should I learn it?

Classical guitar is a genre AND a way of playing guitar that uses fingers to pick the strings rather than a pick or plectrum. There are so many benefits to this style, but I’ll quickly outline just three:

Play More Songs.

Guitarists that learn classical guitar can play anything that pick players can AND they can also play fingerstyle. Ask a pick player to play anything like Dust in the Wind by Kansas and they’ll break out in a nervous sweat whereas you and your nimble fingers will be laughing!

Technical Awesomeness.

A foundation in classical guitar technique will ensure you have excellent finger control, tone production, and note articulation. You will understand and know how to make any guitar sound beautiful and rich using only your fingers.

Discipline & Practice.

Systematic improvement and acute attention to detail are the hallmarks of classical guitar and are developed by rigorous practice routines and methods developed over more than one hundred and fifty years.

Where Can I Find A Great Classical Guitar Teacher?

Finding a great classical guitar teacher that can teach you classical guitar fundamentals can be an issue because most fine classical guitarists that teach tend to live in large metropolitan areas in first world countries. This means that an online classical guitar fundamentals course can be the best option because you can learn from anywhere if you have a device and internet connection.

When I started out my father asked my guitar teacher if he could teach me classical guitar. I didn’t even know what ‘classical guitar’ was at the time but I went along with it and fortunately my teacher was familiar with classical guitar. My father told me that if you can play classical you can play anything.

Fast forward three years and two schools later and I found myself living in a remote part of New Zealand with no guitar teacher within a 150km radius! Unfortunately, that was well before the internet so I was stuck learning from technique books, listening to tapes and CDs, and watching the occasional VHS instructional video. What I would’ve given for the online resources we have now back then!

Knowing that online guitar courses are now a reality, isn’t it worth considering looking into one in greater detail as an option to kickstart your guitar learning journey? I’m here to help you.

This NBN Site  IS A MUST!!!!!!!!!

Easy to follow pieces in notation and tab help my younger students a lot.  Notation with Tab can be a great help to beginners and I don’t care how they learn so long as, in the end, they make beautiful music!!!
