Our Evolution
From humble beginnings, we’ve been committed to providing exceptional guitar education. Initially, we focused on teaching classical pieces note by note, enabling everyone to play classical guitar even without the ability to read music.
Our new website celebrates this evolution with over 80 courses tailored for players at all levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—each designed to refine your skills and inspire your creativity.
Our latest addition is a brand-new beginner course designed to help new guitarists build a solid foundation and grasp fundamental technique and music theory.
This course joins our extensive library, which includes offerings for beginners looking to start their guitar journey, intermediate players looking to refine their skills and advanced musicians exploring complex compositions.
JOSH'S STORY
From the Countryside of New Zealand to the World Stage
Born and raised in the serene countryside of New Zealand, my journey with guitar began as a solitary pursuit, far removed from the bustling music scenes of big cities. Despite the challenges of learning in isolation, music became my refuge—a language that transcended boundaries and connected me to a world of endless possibilities.
My path led me to pursue formal music education starting at Victoria University, culminating in a Licentiate Diploma with Distinction from The Trinity College of London in 2005.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping thousands of students as an itinerant guitar music teacher at ten schools in New Zealand, and one international school in Dubai. In addition to that my online lessons and performances have been viewed more than twelve million times on YouTube.
Since 2004 I have performed internationally in over 1,500 live shows spanning more than ten countries. Highlights include opening the Singapore F1 in 2013, and playing at WOMAD in Cardiff, Wales in 2014.
Each note played and each chord struck carries with it a story of resilience and passion. NBN Guitar embodies not just a platform for learning but a sanctuary where musicians of all backgrounds can find inspiration and support. It's a testament to the transformative power of music—a journey we embark on together, celebrating every triumph and overcoming every challenge.
As we look ahead, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share my lifelong love for guitar and continue expanding NBN Guitars' offerings. Together, let's create music that resonates deeply and fosters a community bound by a shared love for the art of guitar.

Our Teaching Style
Our greatest strength lies in presenting guitar technique and theory in a relaxed and easy to understand way.
Josh has a very laid-back approach to teaching and he is gifted with the ability to present complicated material simply and quickly. Browsing through the thousands of comments on the NBN Guitar YouTube channel will tell you just how respected and admired his teaching approach is.
His classical background, combined with extensive experience performing in covers bands around the world and as a collaborative songwriter for the duo Waiora, positions Josh ideally for teaching many genres of music - Metal, Rock, Jazz, Country, Ethnic and more.

Even now Josh is undertaking a teaching diploma so that the lessons he creates continue to improve and evolve with modern teaching practices and developments.
