Preludio No. 11 by Francisco Tárrega is an absolutely beautiful short piece with a Drop-D tuning. I recommend playing this piece with freedom and joy. The difficulty of this piece will be around Trinity College of London Grade 3-4.
Yet another brilliant short piece in ternary (ABCA) form by Francisco Tárrega. Featuring a drop-D tuning and a 2/4 time signature this piece provides a nice departure from standard tuning and the most common 4/4 time signature.
Without a doubt this is one of the coolest pieces that I’ve learned this year. For me it ranks alongside Pavana Capricho by Isaac Albeniz for my favourite pieces of all time.
I’m a huge fan of Isaac Albéniz and his music. Although he was a pianist his works (when transcribed for guitar) are absolutely exquisite and sit perfectly upon six strings. This piece is not as famous as his opus magnum ‘Asturias’ nevertheless it is a masterful work to play on guitar.
A stunning piece that is challenging yet immensely rewarding. Some big stretches will push even the most nimble fingers! Thank you Barrios.
A stunning, vibrant, and energetic piece from Gaspar Sanz. Those of you that are familiar with the Fantasia para un Gentilhombre guitar concerto by Joaquin Rodrigo will know the he used this piece as the thematic content for the final movement.
Another quiet achiever from Francisco Tárrega.
This waltz by Ferdinado Carulli is a light and relatively easy piece that probably sits at around the grade 3 TCL or RSM level.
The Mazurka Choro by Villa Lobos is probably not as popular as it should be. Despite being a long piece it is repetitive in nature and probably sits at around grade 6 to 7 with TCL or ABRSM.
Ferdinando Carulli was one of the busiest composers of the later part of the 18th century right into the middle of the 19th. This lovely Andantino makes a wonderful and lyrical right-hand study.
I pay homage to the incredible icon of the classical guitar world - Julian Bream.
UP is a beautiful movie from PIXAR. The theme music was originally composed for piano but here it is faithfully transcribed for guitar. Thanks to Kevin Nash for the arrangement.
A beautiful traditional piece of music as performed originally by Scottish Celtic guitar virtuoso Tony McManus. This is my transcription and video series of this wonderful guitar piece.
It's all here:
- Super accurate tabs & notation
- Backing track
- Video play-through

In this lesson I'm only showing you James Hetfield's signature solo which kicks in at around the 5 minute mark in the studio recording. The solo doesn't really last too long but it has it's challenges (especially on an acoustic guitar).
Granada by Isaac Albéniz is probably one of my favourite guitar pieces. It somehow captures the essence of guitar and reminds me of Capricho Arabe by Francisco Tarrega in this way.
This is a very clear and comprehensive classical guitar lesson for this enchanting Venezuelan waltz written by the maestro Antonio Lauro. The lesson contains free guitar tabs (or classical guitar sheet music with tabs & fingerings), a complete play-through, and a video tutorial showing you every note step-by-step.
Free tabs are available but the best option is the Sheet Music with Tabs that has my own special fingering suggestions.
