The CAGED Chord Course

“Easily learn exactly where to place your fingers, and which strings to play (and not to play)!

What You’ll Learn

You will learn how to play useful common chords that will allow you to play many songs on your guitar.

The videos can be followed easily allowing you memorise the chords quickly because you can see each finger being carefully and clearly set down on the fretboard.

A helpful diagram provides another useful aid for visualising the chord shape so you’ll have a higher chance of committing the chord to memory.

At the end of each video you can clearly see which strings need to be strummed or picked, meaning you’ll know exactly which strings to play to make your chords sound awesome.

  • “CAGED” comes from the five beginner-friendly open chords: C, A, G, E, D.
These shapes help you visualize the neck and build chords anywhere on the fretboard.

  • You’ll work through these five major keys:

    • C major

    • A major

    • G major

    • E major

    • D major

  • The chord quality sequence never changes:
    major – minor – minor – major – major – minor – diminished
    (That’s I – ii – iii – IV – V – vi – vii°.)

  • Many chords appear in more than one key. You’ll learn to spot these overlaps so changing key (or transposing a song) feels natural.

  • We start from familiar open chords: C, A, G, E, D.
These are your visual anchors for finding the same shapes higher up the neck.

  • When turned into barre chords, these shapes range from easiest to hardest:

    1. E major (easiest)

    2. A major

    3. C major

    4. D major

    5. G major (most difficult)

    • Clear roadmap across the fretboard

    • Faster song learning & transposing

    • Strong foundation for rhythm & future lead playing
