Sons de Carillhões - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Sons de Carillhões or ‘Sounds of Bells’ was composed by João Pernambuco - a brilliant Brazilian composer, guitarist, and singer from the early part of the 20th century.
He composed over 100 known works and is often considered to be as influential as his fellow countryman Heitor Villa-Lobos for establishing the 'sound' of Brazilian guitar.
I first learned this piece in the 90s as part of my first year recital for university. My teacher William Bower suggested it and I’m so glad he did!

Sevilla - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Isaac Albeniz was a brilliant Spanish composer from the latter part of the 19th century. Sevilla is one of his livelier and immediately catchy compositions from the Suite Española Op. 47.
It features the somewhat unusual G6 open tuning where the 6th string is down to D and the 5th string is down to G.

Recuerdos de la Alhambra - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Recuerdos de la Alhambra or Memories of the Alhambra is an iconic piece in the classical guitar repertoire. As a solo piece I rank it next to the Concierto de Aranjuez as one of the most recognisable and transcribed pieces for guitar.
Written in 1896 by the great Francisco Tarrega it stands alone as the most popular piece ever written for guitar using the highly specialised 'tremolo' technique - P, a, m, i. Interestingly the wonderful Ana Vidovic plays the tremolo using P, i, m, i!

Prelude No. 7, Op. 28 - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
The melody of this ultra-recognisable piece is simple yet exquisitely beautiful and the entire piece almost seem to be over before it is done. Because the Prelude Op. 28, No. 7 is such a short piece I have taken extra time to explain some performance ideas to help make the piece more attractive to the listener.

Prelude No. 1 in E minor - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Prelude No. 1 belongs to his 'Cinq Preludes' written in first half of the 20th century by the great Brazilian composer.
The Prelude, whilst not being extremely difficult is still very beautiful and contains many of the idiosyncratic compositional techniques that Villa Lobos is known for such as open strings, melodies in the lower registers and multiple notes of the same pitch played on different strings simultaneously.

Prelude in A minor - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
This tiny little Prelude is really more of a technical exercise than a fully-fledged piece. Great for developing speed and accuracy for the P, i, m, i right-hand pattern.
Matteo Carcassi was a virtuoso Italian guitarist and a prolific composer during the early Romantic period. During his lifetime he made considerable contributions to the development of modern classical guitar technical fundamentals. In a somewhat sad twist of fate his achievements were often overshadowed by those of Ferdinando Carulli.

Prelude BWV1007 - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
This lovely Prelude by Johann Sebastian Bach is taken from the first movement of the first of his six suites for solo cello.
The six suites have been transcribed for numerous instruments but perhaps they sit very well on guitar because it is well known that Bach himself arranged Suite no. 5 in C-minor for the lute, recognising the natural ease with which the suites sit on instruments such as the guitar.

Prelude BWV 998 - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
This Prelude is a transcription of Prelude, Fugue, & Allegro in E-flat major BWV 998 composed for lute and hapsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach. This transcription is lowered a semitone to the key of D major. However it would be easily possible to place a capo on the first fret to play this in the original key if desired.

Canon in D - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Pachelbel's Canon is the name commonly given to a canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. My arrangement has been pieced together from the original orchestral arrangement and several other guitar arrangements that had bits that I liked and bits that I didn't like. So I mashed it all together and came up with my own.

"Ode to Joy" by Ludwig Van Beethoven is a hugely well-known piece of music. I remember it most vividly as the music that played during one of the scenes in the first 'Die Hard' movie starring Bruce Willis.
This was also the first 'solo' piece that I ever learned.

Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat major (sounds in E major) is one of the world's most iconic solo piano pieces. It has also been transcribed for guitar. Minuet in G - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Minuet In G is a beautiful yet simple baroque period piece written by Christian Petzold around 300 years ago. For many years it was thought to have been composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. This is a great piece for an advanced beginner to show off their skills.

Mallorca Op. 202 - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Mallorca Op. 202 is one of the lesser known works of Isaac Albeniz that has been transcribed from piano to guitar. Nevertheless it is a truly evocative and technically demanding piece on the guitar.
Albéniz was a Spanish pianist and composer who lived during that latter part of the 19th century and on into the early part of the 20th century. Although his compositions were written for the piano their popularity as transcriptions for guitar have often surpassed their popularity on the original instrument - piano.

Malaguena Facil - Free Classical Guitar Tabs
Malagueña Facìl by Francisco Tárrega is played by almost every guitarist although most people only play the first few bars. When I learned it my teacher called it 'Mexican Hat Rag'.
Francisco Tárrega was a true hero of the guitar with a prolific compositional output rivalled by few guitarists even today. In addition to being a wonderful composer he was also a brilliant virtuoso responsible for almost single-handedly developing modern classical guitar technique and establishing a solid repertoire.
