Introduction

This Adagio in G-minor has a wonderful and interesting history. Originally it was thought that the piece was compiled from fragments of the manuscripts of the classical composer Tomaso Albinoni by Remo Giazotto in the middle of the 20th century. The truth of this is open to conjecture but in my opinion the most important thing is that we have a truly beautiful piece of music that has been popularised by a rather astonishing array of musicians.

I first heard it when listening to 'Rising Force'. On that album the famed neoclassical guitarist and shred-meister Yngwie Malmsteen uses it to great effect as the opening stanza and as the basis of the melodic content of Icarus Dream Suite Op. 4.
