Lilium - Basic Membership

Introduction

The theme song for the Japanese anime Elfen Lied is Lilium. In the original series the song is actually performed by an orchestra and soprano. The words are sung in Latin and are based upon verses in the Bible.

Tips

• The piece/song starts out peacefully in F#-minor before modulating to the relative major with brief inflexions of B-major combined with modal passages in D Lydian
• Aim for a sostenuto approach for the first section attempting to sustain the melodic notes for as long as possible
• The second section involves rapid arpeggios and chord shifts and should be learned slowly and thoughtfully paying strict attention to minimising finger movement and exploiting guide and pivot finger techniques.
