Introduction

Schindler's List is a compelling movie from 1993 by Steven Spielberg. Accompanying this tear jerker is an equally if not more powerful soundtrack. The theme song is one of the most appropriately scored pieces of music ever written for a film and was composed by none other than John Williams. This particular transcription was made by the world famous classical guitarist of the same name - John Williams! In a stroke of genius he made the decision to change the key of the piece from A-minor to G-minor and retune the guitar in the following way:

  1. E

  2. B

  3. G

  4. D

  5. G

  6. C

This enigmatic tuning allows the various key changes in the original score to be reproduced on the guitar without overt technical challenges. I have taken the liberty of changing some of the bars to include two of the beautiful arpeggios that are played by Itzhak Perlman and I have also changed the melody notes in the key change to C-minor to artificial harmonics for variation.

Although challenging with some difficult stretches in the left-hand in places it is well worth the effort.

Let your fingers fly!
