Introduction

Francisco Tarréga is without a doubt one of the most popular and prolific classical guitar composers of all time. His pieces have been popularised all over the world with his most famous piece Recuerdos de la Alhambra being used in several movies and a section of Gran Vals was used as a ringtone in all Nokia mobile phones for many years. Virtually all virtuoso and serious students of classical guitar will have this piece in their repertoire. It is an evocative piece that conjures up images of Spain and the Mediterranean.

Tips

The piece is utterly Spanish containing many idioms from the Southern European country. There are fast scalar runs, natural harmonics, key changes and many other melodic and technical devices to keep any classical guitarist amused for hours on end.
